Day #72: The Chennai Wipro Marathon
(100 days Gratitude Challenge)
(100 days Gratitude Challenge)
The Chennai Wipro Marathon is a call of duty for anyone who has the love of running. I can’t say that I love running. But I love the benefits of running so I run. For the last two years I’ve not been able to run due to various unavoidable circumstances (at least that’s what I say to myself) and so have been getting out of shape. This year I signed up for the run without even starting the practice. But that did not deter me. I decided that if it was not rained out I will go and I will run and has luck will have it, it did not rain and I had to run.
But the joy of seeing so many participants eager to burn the roads is very motivating and infectious. I got caught up in the spirit of this event and I swore to finish this even if were to crawl the last mile. We all started from home at 5 am (we were running only the 10k, not the full, nor the half) and set out to the venue for the 6:30 am flag off.
Luckily for me, our running club had organised a stretching event the previous morning that really helped in my muscles being prepared for the run. So even though I had less than 5 runs in the last 2 years I still was not too worried and took on this challenge.
My aim was to finish this in 1:15. Worst case was 1:30. I finished on the worst case scenario. But at least I did not stop anywhere. I ran or jogged or did a fast walk in a few places but did not stop. At this age and fitness levels I think it was pretty decent. Not good. Not great. But decent.
I completed it. Did not give myself excuses and pull out. I went out there and ran through to the finish line. That was a success for me.
Thank you The Chennai Wipro Marathon for being a lighthouse that pulled me out of my laziness and busyness to pay attention to my body and do something to strengthen it. Thank you
