Day #88: Two Fat ladies
(100 days of gratitude)
(100 days of gratitude)
Today’s gratitude is not for two fat ladies... no! Have you played housie or tambola? Two fat ladies is the number 88. I’m remembering an old aunt of mine who is 88 years old now. When I was a small boy she was old. When I became a young adult she was old. Today I’m over five decades old and now she is still old maybe a little older than a few decades back.
I’m grateful that death does not claim people in their 50s and 60s as much as it used to happen earlier. You can grow old but still be an active and healthy member of your family and community. She is still mobile and moves about though her movements may have been slowed. She is still an active member of the family and participates fully in its happenings, goes to church and interacts with people though with less vigor than before.
Our lifespan is increasing as we speak and technology and quality of medical care will continue to increase it more and more. We can safely look at lifespans of 100 or more and who knows perhaps even double that. I know family members who predicted that they would not like to live beyond 30 and then 40 and then 50 and ....When the number we predict as our lifespan approaches closer, we extend it by a few more decades or years and we still surpass it.
Being active – physically and mentally and keeping our body and mind as agile and flexible as possible will ensure that the quality of our life improves even as the longevity increases.
Let’s live life fully in the moment and prepare for an active, energetic life as long as we live. Preparedness plus opportunity is luck and long life.
Stay happy. Live healthy. Be blessed.
