Designing your perfect week

Good morning! Yesterday we spoke of purpose and how it affects our lives. And all of yesterday and today while I was following Hurricane Irma pounding Florida in the worst ever storm seen in recent times, I was reminded of how purpose affects the outcome.

Do you remember the cyclone that battered Chennai 2 years ago? The administrators of our city took decisions based on their purpose. Cover their backside. Blame someone else if something went wrong. Just go ahead with immediate personal concerns rather than bother about the city's needs. However as I observed how the administration in the US prepared for the storm in Florida, I couldn't help but notice that their primary purpose was to avoid loss of life, and the secondary purpose was to protect whatever can be protected. So they took massive action to evacuate the inhabitants to safer areas or safe structures within the storm affected area. This has paid off handsomely with almost nil loss of life and minimal dislocation considering the intensity of the storm
Just as we learn from the management of a city or area during a storm, we need to be prepared for the storm that we face in a work week. And while facing the storm the best weapon that we have to come through with flying colours is knowing with clarity what this week's purpose is.
What is the purpose of this week for you? What one or two things, if you do this week will carry you closer to reaching your dream or purpose of your life. In the course of my work life, I've met thousands of business owners and I have found that the successful ones are those that were clear on the purpose of their business. You may argue that the purpose of a business is to make money. It is like arguing that the purpose of life is to breathe. Money is inevitable in a business. The business is successful only if it has a larger purpose.
It could be as simple as I will ensure that come what may, my family and my mother are taken care like a queen and that they will never ever suffer for lack of money ever. Or it could be larger like I will change the way people use a phone for ever. Or it could be, I will ensure that my business gives 1000 fresh graduates their first job and give them a life-long career.
If there is a strong enough purpose for your business, you need to ask yourself, "Will today and this week contribute to that purpose?" If the answer is yes, "what one or two actions should be taken that will take you closer to your goal?" Introspect, find them, list them and execute them.
Design your hour, design your day, design your week. Design your life.
You can make of it whatever you intend to. Align yourself with your highest purpose and go have a glorious week.
