Day #76: Generosity 100 Day Gratitude Challenge

Day #76:               Generosity
100 Day Gratitude Challenge

In my office building, we have a cafeteria where there are different food outlets. I normally buy lunch from one of these outlets. It is managed by 4 ladies who run it like it’s their mission to feed all those hungry souls who stop by for a meal there. They serve meals, dosas, pooris and aloo parathas for lunch and some assorted snacks like medu vadai and masala vadais.

When we ask for masala with dosa, they generously serve that too even though it is not part of their package. And do you know how much we pay for the plate of dosas? Rs 20/- for 2 dosas. And they serve chutney, sambar and when we ask even masala. Two of us can have a meal for Rs 40 or Rs 100 depending on what we eat. I would call these people extremely generous. They are giving more value than they are receiving. They are happy and pass on their smiles to every customer. They cook the food with happy feelings and pass on their happiness to their customers. Their generosity is
commendable.

I’m grateful to these generous people in my life. There are many more such people in my life. I can think of Ashok a friend and neighbour who is part of our carpool. He travels 27 kms each way to office five days a week. His car is always filled with people who he drops on the way or picks up on the way back. And he plies them with snacks, conversations, smiles, and laughter. He feels bad if even one seat is empty. And he gives a biscuit packet to the toll collector most days.

Generosity comes easily to him and he is always in a happy state irrespective of the circumstances he may be facing at that time.

Generous people are the truly happy ones. They give of themselves and what they have without a second thought. They are truly connected to our Creator and will have a special place up there for them.

I’m grateful for all the generous people in my life.
